Susan McAll - Chair

Susan McAll

Commoner Conservator Elected 2018

Susan graduated from Durham university with a degree in Law. She qualified as a lawyer and specializes in corporate banking compliance and regulation. She has lived on the edge of the Forest since 1987 and often helps out on the family farm in Hartfield - which grazes South Down sheep and Sussex cattle. She is a keen horsewoman and rides out on the Forest regularly.


Rosalyn St Pierre - Vice Chair

Rosalyn St Pierre Appointed by ESCC

Rosalyn St Pierre has lived in East Sussex since 1974. A career and lifelong interest in international education teaching English as a foreign language led her to become a school governor for four years. She continues to work in international education by writing textbooks for the Oxford University Press, which are designed for government schools in East and Central Africa. She is a member of the Barcombe Footpath Association and a keen supporter of the Sussex Ouse Conservation Society.

Chris de Mestre

Chris De MestreCommoner Conservator elected in 2020.

Chris is a Graduate of Cornell University with an M.P.S. in Real Estate (Masters of Real Estate) and the University of Sydney with a Bachelor of Agricultural Economics. He has a 25 years of experience in the real estate sector ranging from public private partnerships, infrastructure and logistic developments, real estate asset management, debt restructuring and senior managerial roles in the commercial real estate portfolio and funds management industry in Europe. He also has extensive experience in animal husbandry / agriculture production having previously run a broadacre agricultural business in Australia.

Liz Maudslay

Liz MaudslayCommoner Conservator - elected 2021

Liz was born and brought up on Ashdown Forest in the house she still lives in on the South Chase. She has seen many changes to the forest and is very committed to preservation of heathland and the wildlife it supports.

Liz has a doctorate in English Literature. All her work has been in the area of Further Education both in this country and abroad. Most recently she worked as a national education policy adviser.

Tony Reid was born and raised in Australia, where he studied geology and before pursuing a career in the international oil industry.


Elizabeth Riminton Drury

Elizabeth DruryAppointed by ESCC 2021

Elizabeth lives on the forest in Chelwood Gate and has ridden horses or walked dogs (and children) on the forest daily for over 20 years. She is an active environment and climate campaigner at local and national level.

Her career as an EU political consultant has focussed on advising and supporting major environmental organisations at international, European and national level to influence a range of EU nature protection and environment policies, including the EU Birds and Habitats legislation which currently provide protection for the forest. She speaks fluent French and German, and is a graduate in European Studies and Modern Languages from Bath University.

Colin Smith

Colin SmithCommoner Conservator - elected 2017

Colin Smith is a Commoner Conservator and has been a Commoner for more than twenty five years. Colin is a retired Chief Risk Officer, Trustee and active member SERV, a charity transporting blood, and other NHS products to hospitals across Sussex.


Jonathan Squire

Jonathan SquireAppointed by ESCC 2021

Jonathan graduated with a degree in Geology. He spent his career in international banking, living in nine challenging countries around the World. Next he obtained another degree, in Countryside Management to further his passion for conservation and Ashdown Forest. Based in Hartfield, he has spent one day each week since 2009 volunteering on the Forest. In his spare time Jonathan breeds Soay sheep.


Richard Stogdon

Richard StogdonAppointed by ESCC

Richard Stogdon graduated at Aberdeen University with a degree in law, subsequently practicing as a Solicitor specializing in Trusts, Estates, Tax and Succession, firstly in Scotland and latterly in England. As a member of East Sussex County Council, Richard was appointed to the Board of Conservators in 2005. He has owned and operated Laurel Tree Fruit Farms at Boar’s Head to the north east of the Forest since 1987.


Ffion Thomas

Ffion ThomasAppointed by ESCC 2021

Ffion has an MSc in Sustainable food and natural resources from the Centre for Alternative Technology, and is currently a Doctoral Researcher at Coventry University where she is researching the effects of soil health on ash dieback disease. She is passionate about nature and wildlife and is a founding member of Friends of the River Medway. Ffion previously worked in risk management and regulatory compliance


Sylvia Tidy

Councillor Sylvia Tidy

Appointed by ESCC

Sylvia Tidy moved to East Sussex in 1958 and married a local farmer. She has lived on the same farm for 45 years and has a small beef herd. Council work and the farm keep her pretty busy. Sylvia was appointed to the board in 2011.
