Meetings of the Ashdown Area Deer Forum

The Ashdown Area Deer Forum (AADF) was set up in 2006 to provide a forum on deer in the area and with the objectives of reducing the number of deer Road Traffic Collisions (RTCs) and ensuring the welfare of a healthy, local deer population.

It includes representatives from the Deer Initiative, East Sussex County Council, the RSPCA, the British Deer Society, Sussex Police, and local land-owners or managers such as the Ministry of Defence and the Conservators. The immediate reason for the Group's formation is the rise in deer RTCs, at least 330 in 2006.  Most casualties are fallow deer, with the occasional roe and muntjac.

The AADF has succeeded in (a) improving deer warning signage on the A22, (b) established, via funding from ESCC, a deer warden scheme covering East Sussex and (c) in April 2009 a deer management group, The West High Weald Deer Management Group (WHWDMG) to co-ordinate activities between landowners / managers.  To contact the administrator of the WHWDMG please contact John Rich on jjosrich@btinternet.com

For all other deer matters contact Hew Prendergast, chair of the AADF on hew@ashdownforest.org
